Who stood to gain by panicking the nation & shutting down our entire economy, over an epidemic that will likely kill fewer Americans than the ‘regular old flu’?

Just for the record . . .

Thursday, March 15th, 2018

A quick Internet search shows The New York Times, CNN — most of the usual suspects — trumpeting that Democrat and former federal drug prosecutor Conor Lamb (campaigning as a gun-loving conservative) won an “upset victory” (by 627 votes, out of more than 200,000 votes cast) over state legislator Rick Saccone in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional […]

There’s plenty we could do about mass shootings

Monday, March 12th, 2018

There was a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Feb. 14. (Former?) student Nikolas de Jesus Cruz (who was reportedly a subject of bullying there) used a .223-caliber, one-shot-per-trigger-pull rifle (not an “automatic weapon” as claimed by Democratic Florida Sen. Bill Nelson.) Young de Jesus Cruz left 17 dead, dozens more injured.

Abandoning the last vestiges of even-handedness, the Legacy Press goes all-in to destroy President Trump

Tuesday, February 21st, 2017

As a 40-year veteran professional newsman, let me tell you the one thing the “Mainstream Media” will never tell you about Donald Trump’s accusations of their peddling “Fake News” and grossly hate-filled, prejudiced coverage:

Defying the Health Nazis’ edicts

Tuesday, June 21st, 2016

On June 3, the little twice-a-week “Pahrump Valley Times” re-ran an article from its parent publication, the daily Las Vegas Adelson-Journal, reporting the health of older folks in Nevada is about as bad as it can get.

The ‘Gun Violence Tax’

Wednesday, September 30th, 2015

As expected, three gun-rights groups — the National Rifle Association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the Second Amendment Foundation — have sued the city of Seattle over the City Council’s unanimous August adoption of a so-called “gun violence tax.” The lawsuit accuses the city of violating Washington state law, which prohibits local governments from […]

‘Well, there’s nothing artificial about it’

Thursday, March 5th, 2015

The book “The Archaic Revival” (HarperCollins 1991), which is a compilation of writings by and interviews with the late entheogen pioneer Terence McKenna, concludes with an interview conducted by Nevill Drury as it appeared in the Autumn, 1990 (Vol. 11, No. 1) issue of the Australian magazine “Nature and Health.” An excerpt of the most […]

Thoughts on the occasion of the October moon

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

(Re-posting Vin’s traditional Halloween column) Halloween, the day when many an American parent will suit up the little ones in black robes, matching 17th century conical hats, and over-sized warty noses, sending them off to delight the neighbors with this impersonation of a witch, as traditionally represented from 17th century Austrian paintings of the Hexensabbat […]

Winding down the War on Drugs

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

Nevada voters approved medical marijuana at the polls, placing it in the state constitution in the year 2000 and instructing “The Legislature shall provide by law for … appropriate methods for supply of the plant to patients authorized to use it.” Now, sick Nevadans can pay a $150 fee and acquire a physician’s recommendation for […]

‘Sustainable’? Tell me your time frame

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

A regular reader writes in to protest my assertion that America now has enough proven fossil fuel reserves to last for centuries, warning “Fracking technology isn’t sustainable.” As with other shorthand terms designed to eliminate case-by-case by analysis, when “unsustainable” comes to mean merely “bad,” the results can get silly.
