Rather than leave the impression that no free-market thinker of any note stands opposed to this “open borders” stuff – (“Please! Send us millions more Spanish-speaking peasants who scorn our laws and want to stick us with their medical bills, and now please add a couple million unreconstructed members of an alien religion, whose holy book instructs them to murder homosexuals and harass and stab women wearing standard Western clothing as they seek to impose their 8th Century legal code on America!”) — perhaps the time has come to review our friend Hans-Hermann Hoppe’s essay “Natural Order, the State, and the Immigration Problem,” first published in the Journal of Libertarian Studies, Volume 16 Number 1, Winter 2002.

(Kindly note, in advance, that I use ‘liberal’ here as in the modern parlance of self-described liberals. I am aware there are other — more or less archaic — definitions, and am not interested in disputing those. OK? Thanks.) 🙂
Both Vin and I grew up as east coast liberals, and thankfully we each outgrew the indoctrination, having eventually recognized it as such. Many decent people with good hearts and smarts just don’t. Not because they’re “totalitarians at heart,” as some say — they’ve simply been immersed in liberal ideology since birth, like the proverbial fish in water. Parents pass their biases and beliefs along to their kids; schools as well as the media reinforce that liberal ideology. With political correctness, they go too far in trying to silence debate and smother criticism — criticism, after all, (especially when it comes to bad ideas) is sometimes warranted, and debate or open discussion is indispensable to a free society.

With so much dark strangeness dominating the headlines, and people’s thoughts these days, it feels like time for a lighthearted post . . . to take a few moments to remember there’s still much to be grateful for, and beauty in the world if you care to look for it. Back to the somber stuff soon enough, no doubt. *I* need a break from it. 🙂

Readers are probably familiar with the hacked BLM (as in Black Lives Matter, not the other BLM we’re more prone to post about here) leader’s Twitter account, in which plans are discussed for a “Summer of Chaos.” (See here for that conversation.) It looks like that has already begun, with the Orlando Pulse night club tragedy (or false flag, depending who you ask) and most recently the shootings of police officers in Dallas. Terror is a form of conditioning, and it sure seems to be ramping up lately. Thank goodness for the white hat hackers, who work to expose this stuff and warn people who are paying attention.

Originally conceived as “Operation Rancher Rescue,” this project soon morphed into “Operation Wildlife Rescue.” At present there are three videos in the series and it sounds like more may be in the works. This should be good outreach to those folks who love animals (maybe even people too) but may not understand how destructive many policies of the BLM — and other agencies — are here in the rural west, and may even think government is the solution.
Go here to watch the videos, and here to read a short article on the project.

Imagine with me we’re attending one of those “candidate forums” where local office-seekers address the public. Two candidates for the office of dog-catcher rise. The first seems unaccustomed to public speaking. He offers no grandiose speech. He just calmly says “If you elect me, I’m going to do my best to round up these packs of feral dogs we’ve got around here, attacking children and family pets and the like. That’s about it.” He sits down.

Nederlander Rene Hartman’s latest thoughtful comment appears as the 21st response under my recent posting “Setting Up the Straw Man,” below. I realize traffic falls off for the comments under a week-old column — especially if said “comments” column is clogged with repetitive sneers from someone who declines to cite or contribute facts, real-world examples, or logical arguments, instead merely donning the cape of a self-appointed Bishop of the Church of Libertarian Purity and dismissing as “evil” any viewpoint differing from his own.

On June 3, the little twice-a-week “Pahrump Valley Times” re-ran an article from its parent publication, the daily Las Vegas Adelson-Journal, reporting the health of older folks in Nevada is about as bad as it can get.
